The training
Whatever has been the purpose of the purchase of our Labrador, both for hunting, for exposure or only for company, the obedience is (obedience) it of a fundamental importance to have a suit control of our animal, not only to make to respect him the rules of a civilian cohabitation with the people, but also to allow us to save his life, if he is introduced the occasion of it. Every dog should be polite and trained in such way by not to bring trouble neither in the house, neither in a public environment. Our labrador, trained once, he can follow us anywhere without arousing claims, without giving some problems, anywhere we find us. The teaching of the basilar rules they will already begin in the moment which it will enter in our house, teaching him whether to dirty, to come to us when it calls him, to know what is his kennel and where he cannot climb. It will have to understand since small to know the meaning of the word "No! ". A No dry motto to the correct moment is worth more than thousand punishments, without resorting to drastic ways, the tone of the voice and well visible gestures it will be enough only. And' a lot of main point to praise him when he obeys, strengthening the praise with a good biscuit for dogs, that however won't have to be a habit. We try to now understand which are the principal rules that our pup will have to learn. For first thing the obedience to the call: in whatever moment and anything coop making the dog has to answer to the call of the master. And it's important to accustom him to an unique command: the name of the dog is usually followed by the word "you come" or "here" or "foot" etc. The pup of Labrador is normally very sociable and answers gladly to the call, since the first times, but if he is busy in some activities that interest particularly he will not always obey immediately. For this reason it is good norm to praise him when it arrives from you and above all "not to capture him" immediately. The leash can be a little pleasant from the pup, for which to call him and to immediately tie him, can become self-defeating. If you have a garden you repeat once the exercise of the call more than and every time that the dog will obey you reward him, or with a little darling or with a biscuit. In a second time you can begin the exercise to the outside, leaving the dog free in a place without dangers and after having allowed a few to patrol around him, you start with the call, that has to be always festive, never to play as an order in the first phases. When the pup will have learned his name and he will quickly enough answer, the call must be strengthened more and more in difficult situations. A very important thing is that we never have to put us in the condition to be able to lose. If the dog is busy in the game with another dog or he is having a good time as a crazy person in a little pond, if we think that he won't obey us, we avoid to call him. A well trained adult dog has to also obey and especially in situations as these, but you cannot pretend that he makes him a youth and vivacious puppy. Another thing that is had to avoid is to try to pick up the dog, it has to be always him to come to us. The fact to be pursued is interpreted as a game by the pup and surely it won't feel our calls, making only us bother and to lose the patience, so when it will return we will risk to beat him. Him in fact it doesn't understand the reason for the punishment, it is not able to associate the escape with a scolding, on the contrary he will link the call to his master and then to the blows and the following time will be more difficulty to make to obey him to your command. The best method is that to hide himself to the sight of the dog, for then to call him back, surely he will look for us and it will come to us, so we will fill him with little darlings, for then to leave again him it free. We will repeat the exercise different times, until he won't have learned to quickly return to our call. How much it will return more quickly to us, so many more parties we will have to do him, so for him it will be always a joy to return from his master. The behaviour to the leash will represent another firm point in our training of base; the dog will have to learn to walk close to the left foot of his master, favoring the variations of walk, without remaining back and neither to throw. The collar will be put to the pup toward the three months of age, when, after having completed the cycle of the vaccinations, he can go out for the first walks. He immediately will surely get tired, therefore we try not to estrange too much us from our house, he will stop more times pushing because he is not accustomed to be tied up, therefore we avoid to throw him or to reproach him, will get used little by little to the leash and you will see that the things will improve. When he has taken confidence with the leash, in commerce those exist "for retriever", that are done of alone rope, to I strangle, that the use of the collar they eliminate, we can begin to make to understand to the pup as it has to walk. When it will walk to our left side, we will impart the command "foot", preceded by the name of the dog and if he will be to our side without throwing, we will praise him, while if it will begin to throw, we will give a sharp tug to the leash, imparting again the command "foot." We will have to continue so until the dog won't have learned the command imparted him alternating the behavior to moments of break in which we will play with our friend. The sat one can be imparted whenever every we stop there, appropriating the rump of the dog, while with the other one we will throw a pò on the leash, favoring the dog to take a seat. For the earth we will help there with a biscuit, bringing him to earth to make himself that the dog follows the hand and assumes the classical laid down position, logically articulating the command "earth." The stays it is also another important command that is always preceded by the sat command or earth. The dog has to learn to be firm where we have left him and to stir only to our call. You begins to make to sit him or to crouch to earth, imparting the command "it stays", without looking at him in the eyes, with firm voice. We slowly estrange there from the dog, holding a lifted hand and articulating the command "it stays"; if the dog doesn't stir, we will return from him praising him, for then to continue in the training, getting further more always us, also to disappear from his sight and in to call him back, our friend will have to race suffered by us. These are of the fundamental commands for the education of base of our pup, and they will do yes that he can live a social life without creating us some problem neither with his similar and neither with the people.
